Subject: Re: US Customs query - "Reimporting" a US-produced item into US from a trip abroad.. Posted on: Tue, 24 Oct 2006 17:42:05 +0000 (UTC)

When returning home from overseas trips I've sometimes been asked by
customs officials if I have proof that my camera (or whatever) was
purchased in the U.S. not overseas. I've never had proof, but in each
case the official believed me that it was bought in the US and there
was no problem. It's probably a judgement call on their part if you
don't have proof. But to play it safe, you might want to get together
any documentation you can. If you don't have any official documentation
(a receipt or whatever), maybe your employer could fax a letter of
explanation that you could present if asked.
