I find that comment disingenuous.
Maps (and tour books) are the prime reason we've kept our California
AAA membership all these years. Tow, etc, is gravy for us.
We vacation by driving alot, 3k-8k miles a year. Even given that we've
had GPS navigation built in our vehicle since 2000, I've reguarly
picked up far more than my $50 in maps. Planning is simplier by old
fashioned maps, we post the maps up on the wall, for all to view and
help in the planning.
As for tissue paper AAA maps? What? Every map I've ever pick up has
been regular paper. Not laminated or anything else like that, but
certainly not tissue or anything close to that.
Not saying AAA is for everyone, but with the amount of driving we do,
the map benefit is worth it to us.
