I suspect the guarantor is contacted more regularly then the rest.

The others definitely are not contacted in general, since I've been
listed on at least three (and given permission for a few more), neither
of my girlfriend's contacts were contacted, and mine haven't been yet
either (although my passport won't be available for pickup for a couple
days so there is still time)
