I guess growing up in the Midwest I don't consider a few miles "distant"
(grin) - the sights in Nashville are spread out enough anyway, that
unless you *really* like walking or cycling you're going to have to
drive, and the difference between driving from Opryland and driving from
downtown is pretty much negligible.
(it looks like in a few months they're going to finish a bike/pedestrian
bridge across the Cumberland River to Opryland; at that point it would
actually be possible to reach every cited attraction except the
Hermitage by bicycle, if you aren't too scared off by urban traffic(grin))

Yikes, yes, don't forget to check what's at the Belcourt...

FWIW the Hall of Fame has moved downtown, roughly 8-10 blocks east of
the old Music Row site, near the Shelby St. Bridge and the new
(classical) concert hall.
I guess if you have a car, you have to go down Music Row just to say
you've been there. There really isn't much point in stopping though.
Just a bunch of office buildings and old houses with record label signs
out front. On the weekends (when I frequently ride through on my bike)
there's pretty much nobody there.

Bring a map(grin), seriously I've found it surprisingly easy to get lost
on the Vandy campus! They're having a building boom (especially at the
Medical Center) and some formerly through routes are now blocked by new
buildings.
