if anyone's a techie, their separate technical bookstore, near
the henry weinhardt brewery, has an amazing collection of
computer, math, and science books.
portland is one of those early 20th century garden bungalow
cities where as soon as you get a block off the main drag it
feels like a small town. the neighborhoods were developed with
corner commercial zones and occasional commercial streets before
cars were common, and it has remained a walkable city for the
most part.
