Go to West 27th street, and in that area there are several clubs.

As a single man, it will be very difficult if not impossible for you
to get into most of the clubs in New York on a friday night, so go
anywhere you can get in - or try to attach to a group with at least as
many women as men. You might consider going to bars instead.

Basically, almost all of Manhattan south of 100th street is perfectly
safe, day or night, so no problem wandering around there.

Above 100th street and in the other boroughs it's generally safe, but
there are some bad areas and you should know where you're going.

New York actually has the lowest per capita crime rate of the 10
largest American cities.
