My suggestion of starting in Denver (where I do *not* live, just
to be clear) was also based on a similar reading of the original
poster's remarks. His remarks don't sound much like California
either. Colorado->Wyoming->Utah->Arizona->New Mexico->Colorado.
That would make an awesome trip, and he wouldn't have to pay the
one-way surcharge on a rental.
