Yes, that's what I'd suggest. The extra space will make everyone more
comfortable, plus you'll have TWO BATHROOMS. :)

Having 8 people share 1 bathroom can really slow things down.

And I'd follow up with a phone call to the hotel the day of your
reservation to remind them that you must have CONNECTING rooms that
evening, not just close rooms, because your children will be in the
2nd room.
