I guess it depends on the children and on how relaxed the parents
are. The first train trip I took with the kids was without their dad
we had a 2 berth cabin. That was stressful as it was so confined with
a 10 mo. old, 3 year old & 5 year old. Two years later we made the
same trip, except with dad and regular coach. I remember waking up in
the middle of the night on that infamous train trip and the now 3
year old was missing. I think I aged 10 years in 5 minutes. He had
simply slipped off the seat and rolled under it.
Our kids never minded the car. We travelled cross-country on moves,
packing them into the car at 5:30 a.m., driving until 9, stopping for
breakfast and some play time. Having a late picnic lunch and then
pulling off the road at 3 p.m. to have play time at whatever hotel/
motel/cabin we had found for the night. The kids looked forward to
those trips.
