The main point to understand is that the Skywalk and Hualapai Lodge
are on the Hualapai Indian Reservation, which is about 75 miles east
of Las Vegas. The Hualapai Nation has named its area as 'Grand Canyon
West'. There is a fee for going on the Hualapai Reservation, in
addition to the $25 fee per person to walk on the Skywalk.
Consequently, Grand Canyon West, the Skywalk and Hualapai Lodge are
not at the South Rim (or North Rim), which is the usual tourist
destination, around 100 miles away. Of course, there is also a fee to
enter Grand Canyon National Park, which is a Federal area.
Most lodging is around the South Rim, either at Grand Canyon Village,
or Tusayan, or Williams, but it may be difficult to find vacancies at
this stage for July.
Although it would be interesting to look through the glass floor of
the Skywalk, you would need to judge whether this is worthwhile in
comparison with the (similar) good views at the South Rim.
Maybe someone could post a review of the experience later.
