I always leave a buck - or two if there was special service- , and I do
it each morning in case a different housekeeper cleans each day.

I do this because one summer when my daughter was at college this was
the only job she could get - she worked VERY hard. So now I am much
more sympathetic to the housekeeper who makes my bed, vacuums my floor,
picks up my garbage (I am really not too messy) cleans the bath and the
toilet - much more than a waiter who we are expected to tip for carrying
a plate back and forth from the kitchen (I know they do more) who we
always tip much more generously (yes, I know their wages are less - and
I have worked in a restaurant setting too).

When I was at The Harrington in Washington DC the maid left my a hand
written thank you note with a "God Bless You", she was so appreciative
of two bucks. I felt good for that.
