I met my sister who was up there on business for a weekend, and we really
enjoyed going to a fish hatchery that is close by Portland. They had the
"ladders" that the salmon "climb" to get back to their birthplace to spawn.
Since they were hatched at the hatchery, they all come back there to spawn.
The hatchery had some fascinating films and displays, and we got to see the
salmon through a glass wall they had struggling to swim upstream. I have a
whole new respect for salmon! Truly amazing!
