It depends on your bank, and the network participation.
At an RBC machine, I have Chequing, Savings, Savings #2, Visa, and a
Line of Credit all appearing as discrete choices. The full list (if you
have the appropriate accounts) includes at least three of each of those
types, plus loans, and mortgages I believe.
In general, chequing #1 is the most common to work, followed by savings
#1, then credit card #1. Anything else is unlikely to work across
banks.
Internationally, you may only have one account available, typically it
will be in the chequing #1 slot even if the account isn't a chequing
account.
My US PayPal Mastercard, for example, uses chequing #1 for ATM/debit
transactions.
