Sure -- But the point is that ATM cards and debit cards are not the same
thing, it just so happens that most full service banks issue cards which
do both.

The different is subtle, but sometimes important. It's also common (in
Canada, anyway) to have the ATM and debit daily limits set differently.
My g/f's kids can only withdraw $20/day in cash (well, actually $22, to
cover fees), or $100/day in debit transactions.

In the US it's common for the visa/mastercard carrying logo to be on the
same card too, which further confuses things, especially when you hve a
card which only has one or two of the three profiles, and the clerk is
too stupid to press the "Debit" button and insists on using "Credit" on
a ATM/debit-only card.
