Disagree about Little Italy. While it is smaller than it was (Chinatown is
getting larger and encroaching), a few years back, I had the best marinara
sauce I'd ever had at a Little Italy restaurant.
The only complaint: there was a singer going through every tacky
stereotypical Italian song ever written (when the moon's in the sky like a
big Pizza Pie...and so forth), and then came to each table for a donation.
After he left my table, I turned to my friends and whispered (after handing
over a buck or two) " there's more where that came from if he promises not
to sing again!"
I always enjoy strolling around Chinatown, and have had some great meals
there...generally very inexpensive.
We've done the Staten Island Ferry in reverse...drove to Staten Island to
get better parking rates and took the Ferry to Manhattan.
