Well, road distance from Quebec to Los Angeles is about 3015 miles according
to

http://www.filmquebec.com/index.php?page=distance_en&lang=en

and from Quebec to Toronto (same source) is about 468 miles. Subtracting
one from the other to get a rough handle on the Toronto - Los Angeles route,
we get
about 2550 miles. Say you spend 6 days, 5 nights on the road and drive
7:00 am to 6:00 pm with 2 half hour stops and one one hour stop each of
those 6 days. That's about 9 hours of straight driving, no meandering or
sightseeing. The numbers say that you need to average - average, mind you -
around 425 miles a day or about 47 miles per hour. Now that's do-able. But
that's probably straight line, whatever straight line route that is. And
little, if any, time to loiter/sightsee.

Let's look at your proposed routing:

Niagara Falls (Canada) - Chicago 450 miles
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/distances.html?n=64
Chicago - Omaha 433 miles
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/distances.html?n=64
Omaha - Denver 485 miles
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/distances.html?n=75
Denver - Salt Lake City 597 miles
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/distances.html?n=75
Salt Lake City - Los Angeles 583 miles
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/distances.html?n=137

Total is 2548 miles...essentially equal to that 2550 miles.

But six straight days of driving 425 miles each day alone is a bit on the
ambitious side.

On the other hand a 4 day, 3 night trip over the same route implies about
630 miles a day or about a 70 mile an hour average. That is downright
ambitious...definitely no time for sightseeing. And look out for the state
police/highway patrol watching for speedsters.
