Subject: Re: shopping prices (cheaper by kind of state) Posted on: Mon, 11 Jun 2007 17:44:07 -0400

This can be true due to two different reasons.

The first reason is sales tax. Some states do not charge sales tax and
other states have varying amount from somewhere around 4 cents on the dollar
to 8 or more per dollar. Out sales tax is not like most countries VAT in
that it is not included in the posted price of most items but is added on
after the total sale.

For those in the US this is not meant to be demeaning to anyone or any group
of people. Just stating facts. The second is the economy of the area. A
deprived or low income area will usually have a lower grade of product
(clothes, electronics, etc.) than that of a higher income area. This is
proven in just a few chain stores in my area versus another area just 40
miles away. My area's JC Penny store has better quality clothes (high
income area with many luxury homes) than the JC Penny store (Wal-Mart and
Target are the same.) in a town the next county over (lower income area with
few luxury homes.) After all they sell to their target population. Areas
like Orlando and Las Vegas may have fluctuations in costs of like items
within the locality also. It's like the article (national syndication) in
our local newspaper this past week that said that the person buys milk for
$1.00 less per gallon in the local Walgreens than they do in the regular
supermarket.

So, yes, area has a lot to do with prices, quantity and quality of products
to be purchased.
