Thanks for these great suggestions. In the past 5 years I've been "doing"
the USA, mainly by rail. Last year was St Louis, Dallas-Fort Worth, New
Orleans and Memphis. But the year before that I traveled from Chicago, to
Seattle and down to San Francisco, back to Chicago. So I've "done" San
Francisco (but would love to go back there). This time I'm travelling from
Chicago by rail to southern California, including 4.5 days in LA. I love
comtemporary and modern art so the MOMA is a must (and the Getten
Contemporary). The Museum of Neon Art would be cool too but I think that it
is no longer open. My plans were to spend 1.5 day downtown, visiting maybe 4
or so close by sites. One day in Hollywood, another over to Venice beach, to
just, maybe hang out for the day. The final day down to Long beach to see
the Queen Mary I. The attractiveness of downtown is that I can be in the
centre of things. I'm OK using buses in the USA (and UK!) - just not too
often in the same day. So a bus and back to/from Venice beach is fine. My
other locations are on the MTA lines?
