Use public transportation and walk in San Francisco. Set aside one or
two days for roaming outside the city and rent a car for that time.

For only 5-6 days, you won't have time to see Hearst Castle, Sequoia,
etc. There's plenty to see and do in San Fran in a week.

In San Fran, the weather is cool, but not uncomfortable in December. You
can search at http://www.weather.com for that sort of info.

Depends on your budget. Check one of the popular online travel agencies
such as http://www.expedia.com to see what turns up in your price range.
Staying in the Union Square area or by Fisherman's Wharf is a good idea. |
