Travellers cheques are dead. I went to some trouble a couple of years
ago to get a bundle of TC's denominated in Euros. When I tried to use
them to pay my hotel bill in Switzerland, the manager had never seen
one!
Take your credit and debit cards with you, and draw cash from ATM's
whereever you go. Yes, you will be charged fees of varying amounts, but
they will represent only a tiny fraction of your overall travel
expenses.
Be sure to tell your bank and your credit card company in advance about
your itinerary, so that their computer surveillance programs don't
freeze your account.
