It has been some time since I went to Hawaii but we found Maui
much more restful than Oahu. We usually rented an apartment
(condominium actually) on the North West coast at Napili Bay
("Napili Sunset" as I remember) but there are many others with
direct beach access. Napili Bay had a good reef for snorkeling
and is quite close to the town of Lahaina. Maui also possesses
Haliakala, the highest Hawaiian volcanic peak (I think), with a
road to the top going from climate zones of tropical, temperate,
high mountain in a few hours.
