How did he get the knife in the first place? That was a very small
pocket-knife. As recent as a few decades ago, a cop would be
chastized by his collegues and superiors if he couldnt handle a
situation where someone who had a knife, never mind an old man with a
tiny knife lying in a hospital bed drugged up recovering from heart
surgery. In fact, it was the norm to subdue someone, say, with a
large axe all by ONEself without the use of brute force if they
couldn't get the person to drop the knife through dialgoue. Of
course, all this took some effort, patience, and a bit of time. But
everyone is in such a hurry these days, they lack patience and react
on impulse.
