He pulled the pocket knife out of his pocket.

Yes, and back in those good old days cops were all big and tough and might
even administer a little street justice but beating the snot out of
suspects and save the courts a lot of time. You should note that the
police were called by the nursing staff who could not disarm him and felt
threatened..

Bullshit. Get your factoids straight. He was not recovering from heart
surgery. He had had bypass surgery some time before. He was in the
hospital because he had pneumonia and was having trouble breathing and he
said the breathing problem sometimes makes him delusional. The man is an
ex jail guard, delusional and armed with a knife.

Would you have been happier if they had strong-armed the guy and physically
fought with him to disarm him? If they had broken a bone or dislocated a
limb in the struggle you would be whining about that. The man was zapped
with a taser, which did him no harm, he was disarmed and then given life
saving medical procedures .that had been withheld until he was disarmed.
The taser did not kill him. He didn't fall and get hurt after being zapped.
